Privacy Policy

Your privacy is our priority. This page explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. TL;DR: We don't track you, store your results, or sell your data. Ever.

What Data We Collect (Minimal & Temporary)

When you run a speed test, we temporarily access the following information only for the duration of the test:

  • Your IP Address — Required to perform the test and determine your approximate location (city/country)
  • ISP Information — Automatically detected from your IP to display your internet service provider
  • Test Results — Download/upload speeds, ping, jitter, bufferbloat (displayed to you in real-time)
  • Server Location — Which datacenter served your test (for accuracy transparency)

Important: This data is not stored after your browser session ends. We do not maintain a database of test results, user profiles, or historical data.

What We DON'T Collect ✓

Unlike many speed test services, we deliberately do NOT:

  • No Tracking Cookies — We don't use cookies to track you across the web
  • No Third-Party Analytics — No Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar tracking scripts
  • No User Accounts — You don't need to sign up, log in, or create a profile
  • No Stored Test History — Your results are not saved in our databases
  • No Browsing History — We don't know what other sites you visit
  • No Personal Information — We don't ask for your name, email, phone, or address
  • No Data Selling — We will never sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or third parties
  • No Cross-Site Tracking — We don't follow you around the internet

Why? Because we believe speed testing should be a utility, not a data harvesting operation. Your internet performance is your business, not ours to monetize.

How We Use Your Data

The minimal data we access is used exclusively for:

  1. Performing the Speed Test — We need your IP to route traffic and measure speeds
  2. Displaying Your Results — Showing you your speeds, ISP, and server location in your browser
  3. Selecting the Optimal Server — Routing you to the nearest datacenter for accuracy

That's it. No marketing, no profiling, no "improving our services" through data mining. Once you close the page, the data is gone.

Third-Party Services: Hosting & Infrastructure

N Speed Test is hosted on a globally distributed edge network provided by a trusted infrastructure provider used by millions of websites worldwide (Cloudflare).

What this means for you:

  • The hosting provider may temporarily log your IP address for security and DDoS protection (standard for all web hosting)
  • These logs are retained per their own privacy policy (typically 24-48 hours)
  • They do not share this data with us beyond what's necessary to operate the service

You can read Cloudflare's full privacy policy at: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy

Your Rights (GDPR, CCPA & Beyond)

We respect global privacy laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Your rights include:

  • Right to Access — Request what data we have about you (spoiler: none, after your session ends)
  • Right to Deletion — Request deletion of your data (already automatic since we don't store it)
  • Right to Portability — Request a copy of your data in a portable format (N/A - no stored data)
  • Right to Opt-Out — Opt out of data sales (we don't sell data, so this is automatic)

In practice: Since we don't store your data beyond the test session, there's nothing to access, delete, or port. But if you have concerns, please contact us (see below).

Cookies & Local Storage

N Speed Test does not use cookies for tracking or analytics.

We may use browser localStorage in the future to remember your preferences (e.g., dark mode, units of measurement), but this data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers. You can clear it anytime via your browser settings.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. Material changes will be communicated prominently on our homepage.
